This evening we went to the Ivo van Damme memorial athletics meeting in Brussels. The running is probably better on TV – the commentators tell you who you’re looking at, and you get a good view of the finish. The field events, and especially the jumps, are better live. We followed the women’s high jump. Maria Kuchina won with a jump of 2,01 metres, equalling her personal best. Isobel Pooley, the British competitor, came fourth. I loved how cheerful she was throughout. Our companion R.P. noted how she shook hands with officials after she was eliminated.
Afterwards they turned the lights down. The colour comes from these odd objects, provided by Electrabel to everyone who comes.
