Patrick Leigh Fermor on peacefulness

The desire for talk, movement and nervous expression that I had transported from Paris found, in this silent place [the abbey of St Wandrille de Fontanelle], no response or foil, evoked no single echo.

The photo shows the Abbaye de la Cambre, in Brussels. Even if it is no longer a working abbey, I find restfulness in the shape of the arches.
